It is with a heavy heart that we share the loss of our founder and one of the greatest spirits we know.
On January 27, 2021, Angela Gibbs-Thomas (Angie to all of us) passed away after a long fought battle with cancer.
Anyone who ever met Angie immediately was drawn to her big smile and generous approach to life.
14 years ago she had the idea to start Ridin’ for a Reason. At the time she was affiliated with the Eau Claire Women Rock event and from that she wanted to find a way to help bring awareness to early detection of breast cancer, and Marshfield Clinic’s mobile mammography units were a big part of that equation. She knew the importance of access to breast exams for women all over the state was not as easy as it could be and that Marshfield’s mobile units could address that! And from there Ridin’ for a Reason Rally was born.
Angie headed up this wonderful event as long as she was able and until the end was still the best supporter any of us could ask for. She is dearly missed by many many folks but has left a hole that cannot be filled on the Ridin’ for a Reason board.
In 2019 our last “official” ride, all supporters and riders voted to have 10% of funds raised from the ride go to the Angie Gibbs-Thomas Funds. It feels great today knowing her name will live on with the event!
